How to : Install the BlackBerry Desktop Software Manager for Microsoft Windows

For instructions on how to download the latest version of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software, seeKB12532.

To install the BlackBerry Desktop Software, complete the following steps:

1. Double-click the BlackBerry Desktop Software executable file.
2. A self-extractor process occurs. Once the process is complete, select a language for the installation and click OK. The Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for BlackBerry Desktop Software 4.5 to 5.0.1 splash screen appears as shown in the following image. Click Next to begin the setup process.
   
3.  Click the country or region in which you are currently located and click Next.
   
4. In the License Agreement window, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.
   
5. Click the destination folder where the BlackBerry Desktop Software is to be installed, and select Anyone who uses this computer or Only for me. This option specifies whether the application will be available for any user who logs into the computer, or only for the user installing the application. Click Next.
   
6. Click a setup type.
   • Typical is designed to install the default program features
   • Custom is designed to allow you to choose which program features you want installed, and the destinations (for example, the Certificate Synchronization option within the BlackBerry Desktop Software can only be installed using the custom installation)
   
   • If you want to install all program features, click Typical and then click Next.
   • If you want to install the Certificate Synchronization sub-feature, click Custom and then click Next. For additional information about this process, see the Additional Information section in this knowledge base article.
7. If you purchased your BlackBerry smartphone in a store, or you want to create a new email account using the BlackBerry® Internet Service, click Integrate with a personal email account and then click Next. Go to step 10.
   If you are using the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server or BlackBerry® Desktop Redirector and you want to access your work email messages and personal email messages on your BlackBerry smartphone, click Integrate with a work email account and then click Next. Continue with step 8.
   
8. Select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for the email application that your organization uses and click Next.
   
   • If you clicked for Microsoft® Exchange (typically used with Microsoft® Outlook®), continue with step 9.
   • If you clicked for IBM® Lotus® Domino® (typically used with IBM® Lotus Notes®), go to step 10.
   • If you clicked for Novell® GroupWise®, go to step 10.
   • If you clicked for MDS Applications, go to step 10.
9. Select how email messages are redirected to your BlackBerry smartphone using either the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or the BlackBerry Desktop Redirector and click Next.
   
10. You have now reached the end of the Installation Wizard. To complete the installation, clickInstall. This may take several minutes.

For BlackBerry Desktop Software 6.0 and above, complete the following steps:

1.    Double-click the BlackBerry Desktop Software executable file.

2.    A self-extractor process occurs. Once the process is complete, the first splash screen for Install BlackBerry Desktop Software appears as shown in the following image. Click Next to begin the setup process. 

3.     Select the country or region in which you are currently located and click Next.

4.    In the License Agreement window, select I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.

5.       Click Next to use the default directory for the software or select Change if you want to use a different destination for the install.

6.       You have now reached the end of the Installation Wizard. To complete the installation, click Installand check the box if you would like a short cut to be placed on the desktop.

7.       The installation may take several minutes to fully complete.
